Practical information

On what day can I arrive?

The Brewery is open every Sunday from 11.00am till 3.00pm or during a planned multi-day stay (see agenda). You can inform us of your arrival at: ikkom@lieverleven.be, but this is not essential. Use the same e mail address if you have further practical questions.

At what time can I arrive?

During a multi-day stay you can arrive between 9am and 3pm. After 3pm, the gate is closed and from then on you are not supposed to arrive. This is because you will not have enough time to settle in and become part of the group. A multi-day stay is maximally four days (three nights), but you are also welcome for one day or one hour. Those who are not staying overnight should leave at the latest after the three o’clock break (around 4.30pm), because then the evening starts for the group staying overnight.

The book of comings and goings

When entering the Brewery, you arrive in the courtyard. The second gate is always wide open to what we call the "teljoorgang". On the table you will find the “book of comings and goings”. On your arrival you register by writing the date and time, your name and the municipality where you live. When leaving you check out by again entering the time and your name. You can add your e mail address or street address if you would like to receive our newsletter. Also, some brief feedback about your stay would be welcome.

Can I come with company?

You can come alone, with a friend, or with your partner and children. It is not appropriate to come with several friends, because then easily a sub-group is formed within the group.

What to bring along?

  • Clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, that can take a beating, and are appropriate for the weather/season. Keep in mind that there are only wood stoves for heating, some rooms are not heated at all and you will be outside a lot.
  • Sleeping bag (alternative: sheets and mattress cover) and pillowcase. Beds, pillows and blankets are provided. The sleeping lofts are not heated and have hardly any thermal insulation.
  • Toiletry bag
  • Food: at noon, we eat soup. So, feel free to bring some vegetables, bread or cheese if you have any spare at home.
  • Also some goodies (fruit, cakes,...) for the three o’clock snack, or ingredients for dinner are always welcome. At the Brewery we only eat vegetarian food.
  • An (acoustic) musical instrument with you playing it is a delight for the group.
  • Every day we hold written conversations. If you prefer not to write with a disposable ballpoint, please bring your own pen.

What not to bring along?

  • In principle, pets are not welcome.
  • A mobile phone that suddenly starts ringing is a disturbance for the group. Avoid using it, and if you really need to make a call, do so discreetly. You definitely do not need other electronic devices (mp3 players, laptops, tablets, etc.).

How much does it cost?

Your financial contribution is up to you to decide. To give you a hint: it would be appropriate to donate €5 per person if you stay part of a day or €15 for a whole day + night. But you give 'what it's worth to you'. You can leave your contribution in the glass jar, which is next to the book of comings and goings. You may use the money from the jar to buy groceries. From the surplus in the jar, we pay the land tax, insurance, and for materials for maintenance of the building, water, coal, gas, electricity, etc. We are an independent non-profit organisation without subsidies. If you prefer to contribute by bank transfer, you can do so using the following account details:

BE80 0682 4008 9777
BIC: GKCCBEBB
to the payee "Viersel - Leven in de Brouwerij vzw"
with the message “residence [date]”.
Also, gifts are a big help.
